Hello from Türkiye!

My name is Gunel Allahverdiyeva, I’m a third-year student at Khazar University majoring in Biology and Chemistry Education. This spring, I had the incredible opportunity to take part in a 3-week Erasmus+ traineeship at Bozok University in Yozgat, Türkiye.

As someone passionate about science and education, I joined this program hoping to deepen my understanding of real-life scientific practices. But what I gained was far more than just academic knowledge — I returned with unforgettable experiences, cultural insights, and meaningful friendships that I will always cherish.

A Memorable Start in Ankara 🇹🇷

My journey began in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye — a city that had long been on my travel bucket list. Finally being there felt surreal.

One of the most powerful and emotional moments for me was visiting Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Standing before that monumental site, I felt deeply connected to the spirit of Turkish history, leadership, and the legacy of a visionary figure.

Although our time in Ankara was short, the city’s energy, its cultural depth, and historical richness gave us a truly warm welcome to Türkiye.

Science in Action: Practical Lab Experience 🧪

Once we arrived in Yozgat, our academic journey took off. Every day brought new and exciting experiences in both chemistry and biology laboratories.

We worked hands-on with lab equipment, prepared various solutions, observed samples under the microscope, and followed real-time safety procedures — turning theoretical knowledge into practical skills.

These lab sessions not only strengthened my scientific abilities but also increased my confidence in working in a professional lab setting.

Exploring Yozgat: Peace, Nature, and Connection 🌿

Yozgat welcomed us with its calm atmosphere and natural beauty. One of my favorite spots was Yozgat Çamlık National Park, where we enjoyed moments of peace surrounded by breathtaking nature. It was the perfect place to unwind, reflect, and simply enjoy the moment.

Another unforgettable memory was our visit to Nohutlu Tepe, a scenic hill in Yozgat, where we took a lovely group photo with our professors and a local student — capturing both the view and the sense of togetherness.

Right in front of Bozok University, I also took a meaningful photo near the statue of Atatürk and the Turkish flags. It was a proud moment for me — symbolizing the unity, respect, and shared values between our countries.

A Ramadan to Remember 🌙

What made this journey even more special was that it happened during the holy month of Ramadan.

We were deeply touched by the kindness and generosity of Bozok University staff. Our professors invited us — the Azerbaijani Erasmus students — to join them for iftar dinners, where we shared delicious food, warm conversations, and a strong sense of community.

It truly felt like having a family away from home.

New Friendships, Lasting Memories 🤝

One of the most meaningful parts of this Erasmus experience was the people I met. I was surrounded by warm, supportive, and open-minded individuals — students, professors, and locals alike.

We bonded not just over lab work, but also over shared meals, laughs, and deep conversations about science, education, and our dreams. Even casual coffee breaks turned into thoughtful discussions that broadened my worldview.

These new friendships reminded me that no matter where we come from, we all share common hopes, challenges, and passions. And that’s the magic of Erasmus — it makes you feel at home anywhere in the world.

Wrapping Up with Gratitude 🎓

On our final day, we proudly received our Erasmus+ participation certificates. Holding that certificate in my hands wasn’t just about academic success — it was a celebration of everything I had learned and experienced.

Final Thoughts 🌍

This 3-week Erasmus+ traineeship was a journey of growth, discovery, and connection. I came back not only with stronger scientific skills but also with more curiosity, confidence, and appreciation for cultural diversity.

I am sincerely grateful to Khazar University for giving me this opportunity, to Bozok University for their hospitality, and to the Erasmus+ program for making it all possible.

The memories, friendships, and lessons I gained will stay with me for life.

Thank you, Erasmus, for changing my perspective — and my path — for the better.
